Chess & Checkers 3D
Two classic board games in one app
Chess by FIDE rules and Czech draughts as it is really played, both on a 3D board you turn with a finger. A school of 32 lessons takes you from how a pawn moves all the way to mate with two rooks, and a coach explains during the game why a move is good — and says so when one of your pieces is about to be taken.
Both boards, both rulebooks
Chess
The full FIDE rulebook, not a simplified version. Everything a real game needs is in there, so nothing learned here has to be unlearned later.
- ✓Castling on both sides
- ✓En passant capture
- ✓Pawn promotion to any piece
- ✓Stalemate and threefold repetition
Czech draughts
The Czech rules, the ones actually played at home, not the international variant most apps ship. If you grew up with this game, it plays the way you remember it.
- ✓Capturing is compulsory
- ✓Chains of jumps, played step by step
- ✓A king capture beats a man capture
- ✓Men capture forward only
A teacher, not just a board
Most board game apps hand you a board and an opponent and leave you to it. If you do not know the rules, you lose and learn nothing. This one is built the other way round: it teaches first and plays second.
It is meant for a child of six meeting a knight for the first time, and equally for an adult who last played twenty years ago and cannot remember whether a king may castle out of check.
- 1You learn a moveA lesson puts one position on the board and asks for one thing. No reading before you are allowed to touch a piece.
- 2You practise itPuzzles take the idea out of the lesson and drop it into a position where it decides the game.
- 3You play with helpSwitch the coach on and it shows the best move during a real game and says why — and warns you when a piece is about to be taken.
- 4You play aloneFour opponents, from one that learns beside you to one that punishes a single careless move.
Thirty-two lessons, no wall of text
How the pieces move
One position, one task. Move the pawn, move the knight, take a piece. Nothing to read before you are allowed to touch the board.
Check, mate and tactics
Mate in one, the fork, the pin, the skewer. The moments that decide games, each one set up as a position you have to actually solve.
Endgames and draughts
Mate with two rooks, the opposition, promoting a pawn. Then the draughts chapter: forced captures, chains, and how a king changes the board.
Four of them, and they play differently
Pawn Pete
Learning alongside you. Misses things, and lets you get away with things.
BeginnerPony Hop
Jumps straight into the action. Attacks early and takes risks to do it.
EasyRook Viktor
Defends hard. You will have to break something open to get through.
AdvancedKing Graphite
Gives nothing away. Punishes one careless move and does not hand it back.
HardWhat you get
Two full games
Chess by FIDE rules and Czech draughts by Czech rules. Castling, en passant, promotion; compulsory capture, jump chains, king priority.
A school of 32 lessons
Six chapters, from how a pawn moves to mate with two rooks, the opposition, and draughts tactics. Each lesson is one position and one task.
42 puzzles and a daily one
A fresh puzzle every day that is always free, plus 42 to work through at your own pace.
Puzzle Rush
Three minutes, as many puzzles as you can crack. Your five best runs are kept with their dates.
Four opponents
Pawn Pete, Pony Hop, Rook Viktor and King Graphite. They differ in strength and in how they play, not just in search depth.
Two players, one phone
Play someone across the table. One button turns the board to their side.
Coach and analysis
In the school the coach explains every lesson, free. With the full version it comes into every game and into the review afterwards.
Records and progress
XP, levels, a daily streak, your longest winning run and a record against each opponent — all kept on the phone.
A 3D board you control
Turn it with one finger, zoom with two, straighten it with a button. Several board looks to pick from.
It waits for you
Leave in the middle of a game, close the app, come back tomorrow — the position is where you left it.
15 languages
It picks your phone's language by itself, and you can change it any time from the menu.
No ads, no internet
Nothing to sit through, nothing to sign up for. It plays fully offline; a connection is only ever needed to make the one purchase.
